Gene - I've been thinking it is a lot like Oracle in 1990. For several years it was gaining dominance in a new important market, relational databases. Just about the time the field was exploding, the company almost went broke because they has stretched themselves so much to get market share, new products, etc. Since that short retrencement, there are now up 100 fold.
