Here's a local political story that may have some interest nationally. Shows Bush is taking the 2002 elections VERY seriously and is going to get personally involved.

[Minnesota]House Majority Leader Tim Pawlenty said today he won't run for the U.S. Senate in 2002.

Pawlenty said he was prepared to announce an exploratory committee for Senate until he received a call from Vice President Dick Cheney at 9 a.m.

``I'm doing this at their request. For the good of the team,'' he said.

Pawlenty said Cheney expressed concern about the potential costs of a primary battle between he and St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman.

He said the decision didn't come easily.
``It makes you wonder about the process and the integrity of the process,'' Pawlenty said.
