you have good company: Chambers in Cisco's webcast also indicated that "DSL and dialup" were non productive directions for the company now.

"metro optics" was very promising, along with voip, and core IP. Wireless also got a plug, with a statement to the effect that they were continuing funding with results expected to start a couple of quarters out.

Listening to the cc is worthwhile. It is off the cisco site, investor relations section.

Still disturbing though that the 3.x billion restructuring and inventory charges are bigger than last years net income.

For many of the companies in the BBFW space Cisco is more like the environment rather than the competition.

For one, i'd like to get some sort of understanding on how the capital spending brakes in the indusry went on so hard , and so sharply. Chambers basically says that the capital flow into networking just stopped almost simulataneously around the world (some exceptions in asia).

Average joe investors need some understanding on how that happened ( i.e. who's feet are hovering over the brake pedal, and how they think). It seems to me that the typical investor needs to know this in order to remain nimble. Cisco clearly did not see it coming soon enough either so maybe it is not possible.

At this stage though, I guess the more valuable knowledge is when will the feet come off the pedal and the capital return ( to wireless?).
