Bombardier to Deliver 42 Double-Deck Vehicles to Denmark
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--APRIL 18, 2001 - 08:19 EDT Bombardier Transportation received an order from the UK-based Porterbrook Leasing Company Ltd. for the supply of 42 double-deck vehicles, consisting of 33 intermediate coaches and 9 driving cab coaches. The value of this order is approximately Cdn$76.6 million (55 million Euro). Porterbrook will lease the double-deck vehicles to the Danish State Railways DSB. The cars will be built by Bombardier Transportation in Gorlitz, Germany, with deliveries to take place between July and November 2002.
The new double-deck vehicles will primarily run on the lines between Copenhagen and Kalundborg (western part of Sealand). They will replace existing rolling stock, allowing DSB to improve comfort and quality and respond to ridership increase. The double-deck trains for Denmark integrate Bombardier's long-standing experience with this vehicle type and are customised for the specific operating requirements of DSB. Over and above their great passenger capacity, they feature a modern and transparent design of the compartments, comfortable seats, air conditioning, multipurpose areas for prams or bicycles, and a vendor machine in each train.
Dr. Peter Buttmann, President of Bombardier Transportation, Continental Europe, stated on this occasion: "We are pleased to contribute to the transportation offer for rail passengers in Denmark with our state-of-the-art double-deck vehicles. We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with our partners in this project. Furthermore, we are convinced that passengers will enjoy the amenities of the new vehicles, and DSB as the operator will no doubt benefit from our proven technology."
