I'm an occasional lurker here, saw your question and was curious what your goal is...why you don't just want to sell the option sometime prior to Friday's close? That's the cleanest thing to do.

I think it is commonly accepted that one would normally just sell the option and take the profit, so not meeting the margin call would result in liquidation of that position, but doubtful they would close the account though. I know that the procedure to slap an accountholder's hand is to put a "freeze" on accounts where you are not allowed to use margin and must pay cash for all purchases for a period of time.

But that could be easily avoided by just selling the option(s) outright sometime before expiration.
