Scumbria,
RE:K7 was almost 200% K6 clock speed within 3 months of the launch.
First of all, I am disappointed you did not make a quantifiable prediction regarding the headroom in MHz of the P4 and K7 parts.
Secondly, re:K7 was almost 200% K6 clock speed within 3 months of the launch. I do not appreciate your lack of respect for facts.
Here is a time-line for you:
SUNNYVALE, CA--FEBRUARY 22, 2000--AMD today announced the 550MHz AMD-K6® -2 amd.com
SUNNYVALE, CA--June 23, 1999-- AMD today announced that it has commenced shipments of its new seventh-generation microprocessor, the AMD Athlon™ processor, to computer manufacturers. Formerly code-named the AMD-K7 processor, the AMD Athlon processor is initially available in speed grades of 600, 550, and 500 MHz. www1.amd.com
July, August, September, passes - THREE MONTHS and you say 700MHz/550MHz is a 200% difference "within 3 months of the launch". That math does not work.
SUNNYVALE, CA--October 04, 1999-- AMD today introduced the 700MHz AMD Athlon™processor, the world's fastest and highest-performance x86 processor. Major computer manufacturers including Compaq and IBM also will announce the availability of systems based on the 700MHz AMD Athlon processor. www1.amd.com
