s_c, it already is. my at-home cable internet connection costs $39.95/month. This is less than what I used to pay for a dedicated phone line and unlimited internet service at 56Kb. The advantage now is higher speed. No connection delay. I have 3 computers at home hooked up to it. And in a pinch we can make phone calls from it, too. The killer app is video conference phone calls with family in other states. I know several families who installed internet cable service for the specific purpose of doing net-meeting with video. The cable company usually waives the cost of equip and installation if you sign a contract.
