The ruling says that all service providers must have position location capabilities available for subscribers and that handsets sold after October 1 must be designed so that the location of the handset in use (when dialing 911, for example) must be determined to within about 100 yards. As I understand it, there are two methods of determining the user's location--either with GPS capability built into the handset or by a triangulation process where external signals can make that determination. SnapTrack seems to be well ahead of ANY competition for position location. Art
