CALGARY, ALBERTA--
Certification Paves the Way for Shipping Wi-LAN's AWE 120-58 Advanced Wireless Ethernet Bridges to Enterprises Throughout the U.S.
Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE: WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today announced that one of the latest products in the company's line-up of broadband wireless access solutions has been certified under the authority of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Wi-LAN's AWE 120-58, a new 12 megabit-per-second advanced wireless Ethernet bridge, is available and certified for use in the 5.8 GHz license-exempt frequency band.
"FCC certification is a key milestone in bringing this product to market," says Dr. Sayed-Amr El-Hamamsy, Chief Operating Officer, Wi-LAN. "The addition of the Wi-LAN AWE 120-58 significantly bolsters our broadband wireless solutions line up, enabling the company to offer customers another option for license-exempt network deployments."
Wi-LAN's AWE 120-58 advanced wireless Ethernet bridge, which supports point-to-multipoint, point-to-point and backhaul applications, complements the company's current portfolio of products in the 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz license-exempt frequency bands.
The product, which operates using Wi-LAN's patented MC-DSSS technology, is an ideal networking solution for enterprises needing to share databases, files and e-mail across multiple locations. It is also ideal for wireless service providers looking to offer high-speed Internet access.
The Wi-LAN AWE 120-58 advanced wireless Ethernet bridge was launched in February 2001 and has since been undergoing field testing with lead customers. This certification gives Wi-LAN the FCC's approval to sell and distribute the product in 50 US states, the District of Columbia and all US territories regulated by the FCC. This certification is separate and unrelated to the on-going process for certification of W-OFDM products in the 2.4 GHz band by the FCC.
