You realize, of course, that the mobile Pentium III still gets much better battery life. And of course, you could always disable SpeedStep and run your laptop at 1 GHz off the battery, but then the battery life would probably be no better than a notebook with that mobile Duron.

I am not sure about those numbers. Based on my calculation 800 MHz Duron consumes 24 Watts under typical, 27 Watts maximum.

The semi-mobile Piii consumes 17 Watts at 700 MHz, 36 Watts at 1 GHz. My numbers are a compilation of data from here: developer.intel.com
and here: developer.intel.com taking into account that Duron voltage is 1.4V rather than 1.6V desktop.

It looks like Intel has blown the lead in mobile, and may be playing catch-up in 2H 2002, probably until .13u Northwood is introduced. I guess the 20%+ share that is comprised of mobile chips, of which Intel owns virtually 100% will be up for grabs.
