Mike-- Everything in life is voluntary, except death and taxes. I use BellSouths "Fast Access", a bridged ADSL
offering. My copper loop goes thru a DLC box about 1000'
from my home in north Palm Beach County. There ARE
alternative CLEC offerings, but you know how that goes with
ILECS, especially BellSouth, and DLC boxes. The DSLAM is far away. My service, (I measured it) is a steady. 1.2-1.3
Mbps down and about 300 kbps up. It is pont-to-point to the
DSLAM, then it suffers possible congestion because of BellSouths inadequate infrastructure, which does improve.

BellSouth has many infrastructure issues--they can't keep DNS running; some tech working in the DLC box may screw up;
ditto at the CO-DSLAM end; Customer Service is a joke and I call from time-to-time. If my wait time on the telephone
is just considered downtime, that is 2%, averaged over a year. Can you imagine that I have spent 2% of my life on
phone to BellSouth customer service ?? (at least last year)

I did not want my response to you to turn into a BLS diatribe, but you did ask me. I rant once in a while.

So, are there any better alternatives, when all the facts are known ?? Don't think so and that is sad. I often
contemplate starting a fixed wireless offering.
