Excellent article

However it seems to overstate the extent to which Venter and other researchers assumed proteomics was somehow irrelevant. No question that proteomics is the ultimate "Holy Grail" but of course 1000 times more complicated than the genomic project, and that is why Celera is now gearing up for a focused targeted assault in proteomics. (versus the MYGN/Hitachi approach of mapping all proteins)

Note Venter recently has been talking of upcoming computer designs with PEDA-crunch capability -ie 1000 trillion bits/sec SUPERCOMPUTERS. They will be needed soon to BEGIN to resolve some of these proteomic issues.
