<<I don't know how anyone in Calif (actors strikes, energy, tech layoffs, tech ports down) doesn't throw up their hands and scream, "enuff, let's live on the commune now">>

All of Cali is a commune, JRI. Didn't you know?

Seriously though, I think making any sort of projections that include an actors or writers strike is dangerous -- they are not sure things. In fact, the story goes that due to the stock market/economic downturn there's less chance of strikes happening (though another Naz week like this and that argument goes away, probably). Also, the actors would not strike until July 1 (with writers potentially on May 2). Sure, a long strike that shuts down production will really hurt the LA economy IFF the strike goes on for months. That said, take a look at the Dow during the 1988 writers' strike (the last major union action in Hollywood that did shut down production), and you won't see much impact.

In short, I think you're looking a little too hard for possible negatives here. But that's jmo.
