Sure they do, but they are trained. You can teach them the meaning of Heel, Sit, Stay, etc. they are rewarded and obey. The word bath becomes associated with something unpleasant and the dog reacts accordingly.

You can believe this or not; I'm not sure I do and I was there. But when we would visit my in-laws at their cabin on a small lake they lived at, we would sometimes take a couple of the pets out in a rowboat for a short ride. After a few minutes the shepard would get all antsy and jump in the water and swim to shore, followed almost in the same breath by the Persian ma cat. She loved the water, used to play in the sprinklers and was in heaven when I watered the vegetable garden or washed the car. If you ever want to see just how dirty your beautiful clear little lake really is, have a snow white persian cat go for a swim. YUCK! I think she did it on purpose because she knew we would give her another bath afterwards. I think she was really just saving her tongue for savoring her meals instead of licking her butt with it. :-)
