SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation --

Membership in Telecom Fraud Data Consortium Improves Ability to Find and Stop Fraud for Latin American Wireless Carrier

HNC Telecommunications Solutions, a division of HNC Software Inc. (Nasdaq: HNCS), announced today that Grupo Iusacell, S.A. de C.V (Iusacell, NYSE: CEL; BMV: CEL) will become the newest member, and the first Latin America carrier, to join HNC's telecommunications fraud data consortium. The consortium has been established to allow individual carriers to benefit from fraud information gathered from all carriers within the group.

"We clearly see the benefit of joining this consortium which validates the need to share both fraud and non-fraud data between carriers to help us all to improve fraud prevention," said William Roberts, chief financial officer of Iusacell.

HNC is working with numerous carriers for the new Telecommunications Fraud Data Consortium and continues to accept new carriers of all types to the consortium, including landline carriers, wireless providers, and IP carriers. The consortium data is used to construct and optimize HNC's predictive neural networks, which are being integrated into HNC's next generation fraud and risk management solutions for telecom carriers.

"We commend Iusacell for becoming our newest member and first Latin American carrier to join our telecom fraud data consortium. They clearly recognize the value of sharing data and becoming a leader in the fight to combat fraud in their region," said John Mutch, president and chief executive officer, HNC Software Inc. "We expect our new telecom fraud consortium to deliver the same benefits to the telecommunications industry that our credit card fraud consortium has delivered to the credit card industry, namely to reduce overall fraud levels. And with nearly 100 telecom customers of all types around the world, we have the critical mass to be successful with this initiative."

HNC was built on its ability to leverage transaction-level data, build neural networks solutions which differentiate customer transaction patterns, predict which ones are likely to be fraudulent or not, and provide insight in terms of the reasons for the neural network prediction. The Telecommunications Fraud Data Consortium will provide the opportunity for each new member carrier to leverage on the past successes of HNC's credit card consortium, which is the world's largest consortium of payment transactions to accurately predict the likelihood of fraud. The consortium is made up of 80 billion payment transactions, 100 million of which are online transactions.
