i'm not sure...never even thought about it. thanks for bringing it up, this is certainly worth investigating...not only w.r.t Yahoo's practice but also that of other chart services. i believe however that volume is generally NOT split adjusted. this problem with adjusting for splits is encountered when looking at short interest too. the headline "short interest at a new record" is usually meaningless because of that.
