If the goals are in opposition I am skeptical about the value of the process.

I mentioned that the first step was to explain the process and get agreement from the participates to collaborate. The next step is to agree on goals and objectives. You're right. If you can't get past that, you go nowhere.

We talked once before about finding common ground on the abortion issue. There's no point in something like this if half the participants want to outlaw abortion and the other half want to make it more available. However, if they're sick and tired of the impasse and want to find something on which they can agree to work together, like making adoptions more available or reducing the demand for abortions, it can work.
