Skeeter, I checked into this - I requested historical quote info for EMC for July, 99 - it gave me a chart of open, high, low, close, volume and adj close. The adj close value was adjusted for splits, but the volume was not adjusted. For July 12,99, EMC closed at 58.50, 29.25 adjusted for splits, with un-adjusted volume of 3,365,700.

Maybe you can check this against your data to determine if the volume information you have is split adjusted or not. I don't know of any data providers that split adjust the volume data.
