Charles -

Yoor point about Sears is a good one.

Regarding peer pressure and purchases, don't you feel that brand awareness and peer pressure also enter in to computer purchasing decisions? When the amount of money is in the $1000 to $3000 range, the purchase is not discretionary.

By and large, tennis shoes are tennis shoes. Air Jordans won't make any one kid better than he already is (I'm sure you tried to explain this to your son!).

But purchasing the wrong computer that may or may not run ALL the available software - this generally causes people to stop and think if they are really getting what they are paying for.

Saving a few dollars in the short term may be real expensive in the long term.
