I do agree with the idea of not constantly looking to fight about everything.

the question is, do you agree with the idea of constantly looking for ways to resolve problems without fighting, and resorting to fighting only when you have completely exhausted every other reasonably available option?

What worries me is that you seem to think fighting is sometimes the preferable option even when it isn't necessary to resolve an issue or achieve your goals.

Or what you thought your goals were -- often, in both consensus building and mediation, you find out that what you thought were your goals really aren't your true goals. If you had fought for the first goals you would never have had the opportunity of realizing your real goals, and of achieving more success or happiness than you would have gotten even from total victory in the fight.

Defeat an enemy today and he will still be your enemy tomorrow.

Change your enemy into a friend, and he might be a friend for the rest of your lifetime.
