Novellus as a barometer.....I have never thought of it in that manner.

Here is my take on the matter..

I'm getting called out of my NVLS at 45 on Monday.

So I will rebuy NVLS sometime on Monday. I expect a negative open (Monday tradition) so I will buy it some time during the day.
The response to NVLS earnings is where I will write my May covered calls.

If on Tuesday NVLS is at 56 then I will write the MAY 55's. Here is how I view the matter.

1) The economy is still in poor shape. (ask J. Snyder)

2) The last few fed rate cuts resulted in short term rallies. Why should this one be different?

3) Some stock price retrenchment is in order. (no exclusions for NVLS)

4) Up to this point NVLS has a better outlook than other semi's, so a heavier weighting is in order.

5) The Semi BTB this month will probably scare the hell out of many semi investors and increase downward pressure.

6) A week from now posters on this thread will be saying, "if the fed did an inter-meeting interest rate cut then the economy must be in poorer shape then we thought".

7)Does any thread viewer really believe the rally will continue in the face of continued bad news? Michael listen up, you are dreaming.

8) For next quarter most of the companies will still be in the fog and our portfolios in the red.

A minor gain for the next month is better then a grand loss... CYA...)

As I said before... if I knew what I as doing I would do it some where else...

Jerome
