Rahman's manager senses Lewis upset

Hasim Rahman's manager is so confident of victory against Lennox Lewis on Sunday that he has placed a $1m bet the American challenger.

"I think this will be the beginning of Lennox's retirement," said Stan Hoffman, speaking to Radio Five Live.

"I've had 31 world champions as a manager and I've never predicted a knockout - not once.

"I believe in this case, if there's a war - and we hope there is one - then Lennox will be knocked out."

Although WBC and IBF champion Lewis has confidently predicted Rahman will not go the distance in South Africa, Hoffman has differing opinions.

"When you're throwing punches, the guy who has as good a punch as the other has an equal chance," he said.

Hoffman also accused Lewis of not training hard enough after weighing in a stone heavier than Rahman.

"He's weighing way too much in my opinion," he said.

"That may be a detriment and maybe he didn't work as hard as he should have."

With a capacity crowd at Carnival City, Hoffman is expecting plenty of support for Rahman.

"The South Africans have come up with such a warm welcome," he said. "We've been here almost a month and we've done all the things for the media.

"We've been accessible, we've walked the streets with no bodyguards, and we've visited AIDS hospitals because I think that's something that should be done.

"They know my guy - and my guy feels like the hometown hero."
