I truly don't know how to comment on this ultimately American retort...when in doubt, nuke 'em...I laughed out
loud at the response, at the same time cringing at the truth of the attitude that is clearly implicit and at the
heart of some of our current "cold war mentality" leaders surrounding Bush, people for whom he is in my view
only a puppet to hide behind, to wit, Cheney and Rumsfeld...these are changing times, interesting times,
reminiscent of Chinese-cursed times. If I can in part divorce myself from the innate pro-American
fundamentalism (after all I am first and foremost American) I see great enticement in Jay's worldview( sorry
to presume to speak for you, Jay, just repeating what you said ) ...that is to have a proclivity to make
business and investment decisions on an entirely pragmatic basis, namely invest in I what perceive to be in
interests of my family and friends. I have absolutely no control over the direction or misdirection
of US foreign policy...like Jay observed, there is no good or bad in foreign relations among nations. We
are not any more innocent or guilty of anything as a nation as any other nation...hence look out for one's
own ass. At first such a notion might strike someone as bitter and cynical but on further reflection
such an attitude is appropriate, liberating, and refreshing. As an aside I venture a compliment of Jay's
detailed perspective of world events from an Asian-based view that are unobtainable from anywhere
else. Thanks again, Jay

And for the record, we can't nuke 'em 'cause we can't live in the atmosphere that results...there may be other
reasons not to do so, moral or otherwise, but I am respondong only in pragmatic terms..."nuke 'em" is the
general attitude of the rual locals among whom I live in North State California, where I stargaze at night
and tend my half dozen Friesian horse herd during the day. And please note I intend no invitation to political argument on this fine thread. That belongs I believe on the Strictly Oil-Drilling thread. Soooo!, no gauntlet was thrown
on the floor by me!
