hey Glenn do you think AMZN inventory at busto time will top CSCO's all-time record 2.4 billion write down?

No. Amazon really has very little inventory of value. They do not own the toys. Many of the books, music and video are shipped in as needed. I do not know the story with electronics but it seems only the basics have any depth. My guess would be the inventory of Amazon would liquidate for no more than $125 million.. Amazon's largest asset is the name and I do not know how to quantify a value there. They have nothing else they own of real value unless you count servers. They do never own the DCs. They are leased. By the way, current accounts payable exceeds the inventory liquidation amount so the inventory has no value ina sense.

Contrary to some analysts's comments, Amazon is in real trouble as a retailer. They will need more cash by this call or vendors will not ship them. I believe many have stopped shipping now as of April 1, 2001.
