Wednesday Apr 18 2001 News Release

Mr. Tom Elder reports
Mano River Resources has discovered a further two previously unmapped kimberlites in the company's Kpo Range licence in western Liberia. This brings to five the total number of kimberlites discovered since diamond exploration commenced last year, with recent results from the first two kimberlites indicating they are diamondiferous (see news in Stockwatch on April 2, 2001).
The kimberlites, designated K004 and K005, were discovered during the followup of high-interest kimberlite indicator mineral anomalies, principally diamond inclusion chromites, generated during a recent stream sampling program. K004 is located approximately five kilometres north of the K001 and K003 pipes, while K005 is situated approximately six kilometres to the west Artisansal miners are mining diamondiferous gravels associated with and on top of the kimberlites and are reported to be recovering diamonds of good quality. The two new kimberlites have only been examined in pits, and no estimation of their size can yet be given. Samples of decomposed kimberlite were taken and concentrated in an effort to collect indicator minerals for microprobe analysis.
Significantly, one of the samples from the K004 kimberlite contained a clear dodecahedral diamond in the +0.71-millimetre size fraction.
Meanwhile, delineation pitting of kimberlite pipe K003 continues and at the time of writing the surface area of the pipe is approaching four hectares, still open in all directions with potential for the size to be increased further. Samples totalling approximately 260 kilograms have been collected from both the diatreme and hypabyssal facies observed within the pipe for microdiamond analysis and these have been exported to Lakefield Research in Canada with results expected next month.
Initial microprobe analysis of garnets recovered from the K003 diatreme facies kimberlite shows a very strong population of low-calcium/high-chrome G10 garnets, that is, those which are considered characteristic of diamondiferous kimberlites. In fact, approximately 76 per cent of the garnets from K003 are classified as being of G10 affinity. By way of comparison, the garnet population from K001 yielded 17 per cent G10 garnets and subsequent microdiamond determination returned 18 microdiamonds, of which 22 per cent were classified as macrodiamonds (see news in Stockwatch on April 2, 2001).
The management of Mano continues to be very encouraged by the results to date of its diamond exploration program, particularly the new data regarding the potential size and quality of the K003 pipe and the progress in defining this new kimberlite pipe cluster.
