There is one flaw with your arithmetic - you are assigning a cost of zero to the nHand drive.

I believe that flash memory will come down drastically in price as digital photography phases-in. I have a friend who is developing an audio application using flash memory. I questioned his sanity, because his application requires hours of recording time.

But I have known this person for 20 years, and know he has always gotten good information on where chip prices are going. He has never had a product fail because the component cost wasn't where he thought it would be by the time the product went into production. He thinks that in a year he can put 64MB in a low-cost consumer product that people would buy for less than $20.

So, there's my prediction - frame it and we'll come back and see if I was right. I'll be a bit more conservative than my friends.

Let's say 64MB, $20, and 2 years.

(I will grant you that in an audio application, there are special low-cost memory chips that are basically rejects that can be used without significant degradation of quality. However, I think that these chips could be used in consumer photography applications as well.)
