Well, looks like he was right about more than one thing. Sure, no GSM operator will ever switch to CDMA2000, and why should they indeed. CDMA2000 is merely a 2.5 G technology as is GPRS which is what pretty much everyone has already bought.

He was right about this China thingie also. Its nothing but lots of talk. Every single month of every single year talk talk about the big one in China. In that sense this thread reminds me of a looney cult predicting the end of the world every month. I hope this does not end up with a massive suicide pact. Although after following this thread all these years even that would not surprise me.

Lets think critically for a moment: who would like to be behind the financing of a gargantuan off-standard 2G network in China?

Q is out of the picture for starters. With the rock bottom priced licensing fees they have agreed to, it wouldn´t make a splash if they would throw in all the expected revenues, double it and throw in a new set of Michelins and engineer´s hat.

Unicom? If they did not manage to scrape the dough for a national coverage for their GSM, for which system they have 10M+ customers, how and why they would pull out of the hat the billions to another 2G system?
