I read the press release before I invested, and understand the difficulties with the CARS evaluation. I believe the company is working on getting some peer review of the PII results that will support the evaluation of the parents. Also dosage was low on the PII, higher dosage in later tests upon a genetically selected subset of children is likely to yield more dramatic results. RGEN believes that important information was derived from the trial and they can now better identify the subset of children that would best respond to secretin.

Company was fully aware of difficulties with CARS evaluation and had made mention of this problem before PII results were released. The difficulty here is that there is no "objective" standard available, CARS is a diagnostic tool but inappropriate for measuring response to treatment. The parents evaluation is really the best tool and peer review articles can make this clear.

Like the GNLB treatment for lupus - when you have nothing, something is better. If it isn't toxic and it will help even some of the patients, the treatment should be made available.

From what I have read, there is also resistance among the medical community to treating autism as a metabolic disorder rather than a psychiatric problem.

In time, with more research and more trials, I think RGEN will overcome these problems. Of course, that doesn't mean that I'll hold until then - if the stock starts to slip in value I will probably take my profit and move onto something else.
