I thought I'd post Orange's press release because it isa bit tricky to locate through Orange's website. Curiously, it doesn't mention Infospace by name but it popped along with one other press release when I searched through Orange's press release archive for "Infospace". This press release indicates that their business relationship commenced in late 1999 but I didn't even know about it until I read Infospace's annual report yesterday. Despite Infospace's silence about this matter, that Infospace still lists Orange as a partner company is proof positive that the relationship continues. I think I'll call up INSP IR and inquire about this. When I get around to doing so, I'll make a post here about the response I got. Perhaps Infospace desired to keep their relationship as low profile as possible for competitive reasons. Whatever. It's exciting to have discovered. As you point out, Orange certainly is an eminent company. Incidently, France Telecom owns them. FT also owns another mobile systems carrier company that INSP is partnered with called DutchTone. They may even be owners of Panafon too but I don't know.

I'm sure relieved that all the angry and negative posts have ceased. Now maybe we can get down to a realistic discussion about Infospace's business.

Regards--

ORANGE LAUNCHES ORANGE.NET
ISP And Portal Service Brings Mobility To The Internet For The First Time

24 November, 1999 - Orange today announces the launch of orange.net, a unique internet service provider and portal that brings true mobility to the internet for the first time and gives customers a dynamic interaction between their mobile phone and the internet.

Hans Snook, CEO of Orange, commented: "Orange has always had a vision of a world where people can communicate wherever, whenever and however they choose. orange.net makes this vision a reality by bringing together the drivers of the communications revolution, the mobile phone and the internet. Orange is unshackling the web from the restrictions of fixed line delivery, giving people interaction with the internet without the need for a phone line or cable-link.

"You only have to look at the statistics to realise that orange.net heralds a new era in wirefree communications. There are more people with mobile phones than there are who access the internet. Around the world there are an estimated 200 million internet users, but there are more than 300 million people with a mobile phone. And with the launch of orange.net, we are bringing the internet to this wider audience. Everyone with an Orange phone can now get to the information you need: on the move."
