I will make this an economic post rather than a political one by stating that both Democrats and Republicans are equally at fault in our so-called "War on Drugs."

The tragic murder of an innocent woman and her 7 month old child, prompts this post.

I have never used drugs and I have never smoked. I drink little alcohol and no caffeine and very rarely take any over the counter medication. None of this comes from any religious, moral, or ethical conviction. I just try to do what I think will keep me healthy.

We all come to investing with a pretty good understanding of market economics. In many instances we "know" the benefits of free markets and the detriments of government controlled markets.

The "War on Drugs" should be an economic one. The government should produce and distribute drugs at a price so low that it is not economically viable for any other entity to be in the business. The "profits" from government distribution and any other monies necessary should be spent educating people away from drug use and caring for people who succumb. For those who are hooked, the cost of drugs should be so low that they don't need to commit any crime, including petty shoplifting, to support their habit.

I believe this approach will be far less costly both in dollars and human lives destroyed, than the foreign military, domestic criminal justice system that is currently failing all of us and murdered Veronica Bowers and her daughter Charity.
