Hi Mephisto,

I just read that article from Zonkie about the PCB cleanup in Plattsburg, NY. The Lake Champlain region is my old "stomping grounds" as I lived on the lake in a small town called Westport, before I moved to the Lake Placid region of upstate NY. That Lake is part of most of my pleasant early childhood memories.

I have a relative who has lakefront property in a small town called Chazy which is located a few miles north of Plattsburg. After pasting the article I'll copy it and send it off to her to see what she has to say about the cleanup. She, her husband, and her daughter all live and work in Plattsburg.

The newspaper is called the Plattsburg Press Republican. Also, the Burlington VT newspapers should have info on this situation as well.

The Adirondack Park has been troubled by something called acid rain. In recent years they have seen the destruction of various vegetation and an the altering of eco- balances in many ponds and lakes. If anyone has ever been to the Adirondacks you will know they are the land of thousands of lakes and build their economy on the tourist trade. The pollution particles are placed into the air over the industrial belt of the Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo areas. The water droplets in the clouds are chemically bonded with the pollutants and return to earth as a type of rain that is acidic.

Although the area is quite Republican ( I was a mutant gene..LOL ), the locals in the Adirondack Park are quite concerned about Bush's environmental direction. Many are disappointed in him.
