Have you considered using 64 bit embedded processors, like those from MIPS or Hitachi/ST? The SH-5 has math capabilities similar to SSE, and will cost less than $20 and deliver performance comparable to PC processors.

Nope. But I will be happy to learn more about them. PM me a link if you have any ... I have used MIPS processors before (both on MIPS and then SGI machines). These are 64 bit and pretty expensive ...

Also, are you familiar with John Bennett's work at Rice in processing clusters?


I heard about his Brazos stuff ... but I'm not really familiar with it. John left Rice last Summer, I believe. I think I met him couple of times at seminars.
