It's doubly ironic when you consider that as a result of a shortfall of 100 units, say, in the public utility sector, a requirement to burn 200 units will expended by individual users in aggregate during outages, because of the relatively poor efficiency they experience as compared to the larger utilities who enjoy many economies. The model is way lop-sided in this regard. If it weren't thus, you'd find a lot more folks burning their own regularly. Some are now beginning to use fuel cell plants of their own, but the danger here is the volatility associated with natural gas prices.
