HOV lanes on the highways = socialism = more pollution than without them. In California they're called "diamond lanes". They represent what is possible from narrow minded pseudo intellectualism. It all looks good superficially, but someone forgot to tell the designers about the other side of the equation just like they did with MTBE, and just like the short sighted environmental idealism has brought about a result of loosened environmental laws in California.
