Hey guys.. venturing over here from the SEBL thread (yep.. 'those' guys.. <vbg!>). Any-hoo... Siebel has just announced a 'new' product and market called "ERM" which is used to "hire, train, manage, and retain employees." . This sure sounds like something PeopleSoft's HR product line should do. Comments? Is this a *new* thing or Siebel simply attempting to use their CRM market share to move into another arena. PeopleSoft's arena.
Here is Mike's write-up on ERM. All comments/info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
********** "In Siebel's mind, ERM is so distinct from their sales, marketing and customer service offerings that it's an entirely different product category beyond the scope of the CRM market. For Gorilla Gamers, this is critically important. It opens up the possibility of a new tornado in a new product category. (Relative to our discussion of SRM software earlier this month, I am not yet convinced that SRM is a separate product category though I am convinced ERM is.)
The market opportunity for ERM software is ultimately expected to be as big as the CRM market. That's because ERM will be used by virtually every employee in the enterprise; for every employee in a company, there is a licensing opportunity. CIBC estimated earlier this year that companies spend $1500 per employee annually, a total of $160 billion, worldwide dealing with employee relationships. 16% of that, $25.6 billion, is spent on systems. That $25.6 billion is the ERM market opportunity.
ERM software will be used to hire, train, manage, and retain employees. Executive management teams will deploy ERM software across the enterprise to ensure that every employee is focused on the proper company objectives.
Siebel's ERM software is an out-of-the-box product with the following functionality:
--Web-based training --Peronalized home pages with content customized by the employee --Distribution of company news --Product information --Competitor information --Contact management --Submitting personal objectives
Note that I describe those as existing functions. The product has already shipped to 55 customers and Siebel Systems has been using it internally "for some time." |
