The Motley Fool comparing Ebay and Amazon:

The really impressive number to me was gross merchandise sales (GMS). GMS approached $2 billion for the quarter, up 72% from $1.1 billion a year ago. $2 billion. That's about the same amount of sales as Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) had in the last three quarters combined.

Growth, growth everywhere
The growth is occurring across the board, too. eBay said that its GMS in U.S. books, music, and video operations on the home site and especially on its subsidiary Half.com grew to $700 million in the quarter. That's 20% sequential growth in Amazon's core business, where sales have stagnated lately. (And don't think that eBay didn't want us to make that comparison.) Amazon had revenue of $1.7 billion in this segment last year; eBay's run rate is now $2.8 billion, and it's growing fast. Who's the top dog here?
