With engineers like this, who need standards nor customers,
and especially not competition.

"the entire CDMA 1x effort" seem to be a very fragile
effort, just like touching one line of code on a plate with
cold spaghetti.

Microsoft at least understands to call it "features" and
concentrate on private crashes in the privacy of lonely
computers, far from global networks and Linux servers.

The trouble will be when the other 30 handset vendors who have complied and have met the standards and have made a market
share all become non-compliant when this rolls out. Do they sue Verizon or NOK? How much damages will VZ absorb for them
when they have to recall their handsets? Will VZ pay for this? Will VZ then make network adjustments which violate the spec for
them as well to fix the next problem....and the next? At what point do we have a standard or not?

There are too many problems which get started if VZ allows themsevles to change a standard to fit one player. It undermines the
entire CDMA 1x effort, and I am frankly surpirsed that the CDG and the other contributors to the standard have not stood up
and spoken out. Is the CDG going to support the 1x standard or are they not?

It just does not make sense to risk the network for the sake of one companies brand name. Besides, almost every handset
vendor up to now has had a recall of at least this big if not bigger. What is the big deal if NOK has to eat $2M in handsets? I
would be willing to bet they have spent that much this WEEK alone on WCDMA network financing.
