More notes from the field:

Having been away from building computers from scratch since the PIII 500, I embarked on a project to build a top end PC for as little as I could. I was surprised at all the current nuances the project exposed.

(1) An Intel P4 at 1.5 GHz is roughly comparable to an Athlon at 1.2 GHz:

(2) The 1.3 GHz Athelon has a lot more difference from the 1.333 GHz Athelon than one would think from the clock speed due to its slower 100 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB).

(3) The DDR motherboards with the AMD 760 chipset actually provide the capability that DDR is supposed to provide.

(4) Radeon LE video cards are not made or supported by ATI.

(5) IBM has one of the high performance IDE drives:

The above is probably of interest to anyone ordering a computer. And, while I spent close to 18 hours researching all this, I may have easily missed some different points of view.

I have ordered the following parts from the below sites at the prices indicated and hope to have them all by Friday. I have not dealt with problems at these sites, so buyer be cautious. I already have everything except the case, video, and modem.
