Leitch/FC....QLGC cool for digital video watchers. Have been waiting for 2G for uncompressed HD video. Lools like it is here. Eventually the old analog video switchers will give way? Nice to see Leitch going with some fabric!

QLogic End-to-End Infrastructure Powers Broadcast Video Applications for Leitch Technology
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2001--QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC - news), the only end-to-end SAN infrastructure provider, announced today that the company's SANbox switches and SANblade host bus adapters will be integrated into Leitch Technology's broadcast video servers. Leitch will be demonstrating the servers at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference, booth no. L8620 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Leitch and QLogic are partnering to deliver a high performance SAN networking solution by utilizing QLogic's SAN hardware in Leitch's high availability broadcast video systems. Leitch has qualified and released QLogic Fibre Channel SANblade host bus adapters along with QLogic's SANbox Fibre Channel switches, which enable on-the-fly video editing through Leitch's VR420 and VR440 large multi-channel ``transmission server'' storage systems. These systems allow for 2-44 continuous channels of up to 50Mbits each.

Leitch's VR technology provides a series of robust, overlapping reliability features. Leitch offers total system redundancy, along with broadcasting's only software based RAID solution for protection of recorded content. The VR's Fibre Channel disk arrays feature dual, redundant power supplies, hot swappable fan packs, dual, independent Fibre Channel data paths, and hot swappable disk drives, supported by QLogic's SANbox high availability Fibre Channel switch solution.

Unlike other MPEG-based video servers, all four of the VR440's video channels provide bi-directional recording and playback and switch quickly under software control between record and play.

QLogic products control the flow of data between storage systems, tape libraries and network servers. QLogic's high-performance SANbox switches and SANblade host adapters are leading solutions for Fibre Channel, the crucial technology that makes streaming video and on-the-fly editing possible. By moving data between hundreds of storage devices, Fibre Channel unleashes the power of streaming video.

``We found QLogic's Fibre Channel technology to offer features and solutions that are critical to the broadcast industry for mission critical performance,'' said John Edwards, vice president, Server Division, Leitch Technology Corporation. ``We look forward to continuing our valuable relationship with QLogic as we work together to develop industry-leading, multi-channel digital broadcasting solutions.''

``The Leitch and QLogic solution provides proven performance I/O technology and demonstrates the ability to stay ahead of the demanding performance curve,'' said David Hubbard, vice president and general manager, QLogic's Switch Products Group. ``QLogic and Leitch are leading technology providers for this industry and we look forward to fueling the growing implementation of Leitch's Gigabit-based broadcast video streaming and editing applications.''
