I actually found the news somewhat positive. I admit I can be a contrarian on these issues. The company is not rushing the analysis. My opinion (or guess) is based on the nature of the endpoints. Post-surgical infection is a severe indication. The nature of this infection is such that it is unlikely that the control group experienced spontaneous recovery. If the control group had a severe infection, recovery would take a long time, based on the length of convalescence. If some of the patients recovered quickly (without being selected out), this would give the company an indication that something positive was happening. This would be observed even before the study was unblinded.
