Mike, there's certainly lots of room for cynicism on the motivations at work here.

"We are going to milk the current voice infrastructure for all it's worth before we end our dueling PRs and actually start the capex cycle again."

An important clue as to whether they're doing this by accident or design is the ruinous interest they're paying, on a cumulative total in excess of $100 billion: that's just for spectrum.

The recurrent thought I see is that control of these assets will revert to debt-holders.

Seems like a big, dumb screwup to me, rather than a careful plan. Iridim will look like child's play in comparison.
