when i was 12-13 years old i lived on the 9th floor of a 12-story apartment building. i used to climb over the railing on the balcony onto the 6" wide ledge and make my way along the outside of the building, 8 floors above the roof of the parking garage, using open windows as convenient handholds when the balcony railing ended.

we also used to get up on the roof and initiate new kids by pretending to jump off the 12th floor, while really landing just a couple of feet below on the roof of the 12th floor balcony.

while i'm mentioning it, i might as well report about our elevator antics, too. yep. we used to ride the tops of the 3 elevators (two passenger and one service) and literally step from one to the other as they passed going in opposite directions in the elevator shaft. the "cars" had master controls on the top that could override whatever buttons the passengers inside had pressed.

when i look back to this stuff, i truly wonder... "how the heck did I live through that!"

:)
