Epinephrine: Both of these facts I know from first hand experience from playing a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) called Everquest. Every day I run into someone in this game that is either female, middle aged, or says something in the course of a conversation such as, "oh my dad gave me this shield, he is a level 53 druid".

Yes, I know EQ quite well... although I have to admit that I put that addiction behind me almost a year ago ;-)). My main char was on (whoa... /shakes head in bewilderment as he tries to remember obscure server names) Innoruuk first, then The Nameless (new char, same name / class / race). The guild I was in still exists (Decadent Few), but I have no idea what state it is in. (I was actually rather opposed to guilds for quite some time before I was finally converted).

The new continents drop my frame rates horrendously.

Yes, I know the feeling. I was playing on a 333MHz K6-2 w. a Riva TNT (1) graphics card.

MMORPGs do represent the "cutting edge" of female and middle aged gaming, though, and I don't think the 40+ (age) group has much representation overall (or even in EQ).
