tanstfl,

Many thanks for your "walk-through". Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like a dangerous move for me to make. I still don't know if that Seagate drive has a problem or not... even though it checked out fine with 3 passes of Norton DiscDoctor in thorough mode. I have a significant amount of data on the Quantum drive (C: drive) I can't afford to lose. I was hoping to just be able to reformat the Seagate (D:) drive and copy over all the files on the C: drive from my DAT tape backup to it. The Adaptec utilities (accessible on bootup) allow me to set the Seagate drive as the bootable drive and not recognize the Quantum drive, but it looks like I would have to fdisk the Seagate drive to make it active... which would wipe out the working Quantum drive. Am I wrong in saying if I do that and have to go back to the Quantum drive (the current C: drive), I would have to reinstall everything back to that Quantum drive when I make it active again? Maybe I'm just better off putting in a new large harddrive and have the technician copy over all my files. Actually, I'm probably better off just having a new computer built <VBG>. I'm trying to setup for voice recognition to do my medical case reports and need as much CPU, memory and harddrive transfer rate speed as possible. I was just hoping I could copy all the files from the Quantum (C: drive) to the Seagate (D: drive) using the DAT backup and have a simple way to try using the Seagate again. TIA.

Marty
