You don't have enough experience at investing to have confidence in your claims about IRA. I was a stockbroker and had a good opportunity to observe what actually happens in these accounts over time. It's quite a bit different from what you prefer to imagine, and is independent of the considerations you've mentioned. You'll have to learn the hard way how government creations are a disaster no matter how they are composed to seem palatable and beneficial. The claims you made work contrary to the way you've suggested, because traders can't decide whether they are investors and investors can't decide whether they are traders. As the general fumbling proceeds the rule structures of these accounts exacerbate every aspect of decision making. But the coup de grace is that financial planners and other Wall Street experts are convinced that these accounts have value. That should tell you all you need to know, since none of them have a clue about the financial structure all around them. They just work there, and tell you what they need to believe to keep the income coming.
