14:58 ET Applied Materials (AMAT) 51.02 -1.71 (-3.2%): Hearing from sources at JP Morgan that firm concerned AMAT could miss its qtr and announce layoffs... (Briefing thought: Don't think either would come as a surprise to investors given the state of the semiconductor capital equipment industry, but could provide a reason to take profits following more than 60% rally off April lows)... Company not due to report results until May 15.
