In Texas we had this ant bait that was regarded as a delicacy to foraging ants who would bring it back to the queen and her minions. But instead of poisoning her, it would just sterilize her enough to change her into a slow egg machine. A poisoned queen gets you nowhere, because the workers can't stand it and create a new one from incubating eggs (that's the problem with trying to directly poison ants). A completely infertile queen gets killed off quickly as well, so the trick is to get the workers to keep the queen alive long enough that the tribe pop. goes into a steep decline, unable to support existing eggs, and the small production of eggs insufficient for basic maintenance. Much like the insidious toxicity of Japan's financial interdependency, or our current problems with telecom debt. Stuff worked well, really well. You just had to stalk the ants a bit and figure out their foraging patterns and poot the biat down there. Don't remember the name - look under ant bait/sterilization.
