Hi Gary,
<<Taiwan move to the good side of China? Are they just jockeying for position?>>

My guess:
Taiwan industries and capital is already on the good side of China, increasingly so, literally by the day. Direct links should be next (shipping, post, and such), Mainland originated tourism next, and then, invariably, some clever political machination and construction, leaving the legislature and armed forces intact, finally, the flag(s), possibly on both sides.

Before the final act, China must, for its own good, liberalize the economy much more than now, and possibly having experimented for a few years multi-party rule and real, but of course, manipulated elections. The experiments are already being talked about and 'studied'.

The reformation, restructuring, reconstruction, and drive to succeed is genuine, and has its own quickening momentum.

<<Wars>>
No percentage in war according to classical Chinese strategic mind-set, as all know for 4000 years, the good and smart war is the one where no shots are fired, but only talked about, in the most oblique fashion.

It will be interesting to watch the Kabuki (sp?) play.

Chugs, Jay
