PS: even though the management told the staff on at least two different occasions, when the local media went to confirm, management denied. JDSU/SDL 4/24/00 Update: The local news announced 170 workers bought out or laid off indefinitely today. But wait there's more. The reporter discovered another previously unknown assembly site in the area. The employees there were not part of the forementioned story, but indicated there were layoffs coming at this location also. All the bad news is not out yet. Seems to me lots of jobs moving to China when things turn around, from comments made by JSDU.
