BTW, one of my favorite current economists is Hernando de Soto, a Peruvian economist who is doing incredibly great work in the field of property rights, progress, and growth....as well as tying all this into the success of democracy. I first read his work about 6 years ago on a beach in the Caymans and was really taken by his insights. Mostly common sense, but he's really taking it further, backing it up with great case studies. I just remembered to mention him because I read another article on his work in The Economist recently...great stuff.
